Australian Mining reported that BHP has awarded Downer a maintenance services contract at its Western Australian Iron Ore (WAIO) operations in Port Hedland. The contract entails maintenance of the Port Hedland export operations across the Finucane Island and Nelson Point facilities. It includes the provision of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC), minor civils and rope access services. Downer will work together with the BHP maintenance team in planning and executing these services.
BHP’s WAIO operations are made up of four processing hubs and five mines in the Pilbara region of northern Western Australia. Ore from BHP’s mines is processed to produce high-grade hematite lump and fines products.
Mr Grant Fenn, Downer chief executive said that “This new contract is testament to our asset services capabilities, as well as the high standards of work we provide our customers.”
Mr Fenn added that the contract win confirmed Downer’s leading position in delivering major maintenance and industrial services in the resources and energy sectors.
